1920's Cloche Making Workshop

Cloche making workshop

How to make a beautiful 1920's cloche with the perfect Art Deco decoration!

Today was very enjoyable, Sarah was given a cloche making voucher from her husband as a birthday present.

I took a number of photographs to record the day.

The fist stage was steaming the wool hood to place on the cloche block.

Lots of steam!

Once the hood is steamed sufficiently it was placed on the block and the pinning process begins. Quite quickly the hood took the shape of a cloche.

To complete the shape we place a band very tight where the crown meets the brim.

We then allowed the cloche to dry completely before removing from the block

Once the cloche is dry it was removed from the block and cut to the required shape. Now the cloche starts taking shape.

The next stage is to wire the brim. After the wiring was complete using blanket stitch the cloche was ready for the next stage.
The next stage was to sew on the edging. For this cloche Sarah chose a pretty blue satin bias. The cloche was taking shape.

After this was completed a band was stitched the cloche for the perfect fit.

Finally it was time to start designing the decoration. This was quite complicated and took a lot of patience. Sarah had an idea which was very neat and Art Deco in style.

After the designing was complete it was time to sew the decoration and band on together. All the time spent working on creating the design was well spent. We were both delighted with the way the cloche was progressing.

Finally after a day of hard work Sarah had completed the cloche.

Well done Sarah, the cloche looked beautiful.

Wedding Style Guide: How to wear a hat to a wedding

Whether you are the mother of the bride or groom, the bride herself or just a guest wanting to make a statement, here is our guide to wearing hats to a wedding. The points listed below are just a guide, but ultimately we would always suggest you wear whatever you feel most comfortable in. 1. Hat etiquette/positioning Ladies hats are traditionally worn on the right as dictated by old etiquette where the lady would wear her hat on the right, while her gentleman partner would wear his sword to the left, balancing each other out. Of course nowadays hats can be worn on either side as we no longer follow this etiquette, but you will generally find any purchased hat will be made to be worn on the right or with the decoration on the right. If you would prefer a hat on the left this is perfectly acceptable and a milliner will happily make one for you. 2. Hat proportion The hat size should be in proportion with the wearer. If you are petite, a pillbox hat or smaller brimmed hat will
