1920's Style Cloche Hat Workshops
One of our most popular workshops is learning how to make a 1920's style cloche hat.
The lesson takes a complete day, sometimes a little longer, to complete a cloche.
About the workshop
Having chosen the colour of the hat and shape the student learns how to block their hat on a wooden cloche block using steam.
As the hat dries on the block, the student designs their decoration. Decorations include felt, leather, feathers and a number of other materials depending which of the two workshops we offer.
Excitement always occurs when the felt is removed from the block and the hat is revealed.
Once off the block the shape of the cloche is decided upon and then the felt is cut accordingly, the most popular being the shape as in the photos, asymmetrical . The cloche then has it's wire and edging attached followed by the band. The band is frequently the same felt as the hat itself. Once all these stages are completed the decoration is stitched on.
We run these workshops all year. It is the most perfect gift for anyone who loves sewing, hats and designing.
