Hand made Face Masks, Face coverings As this had been a terrible year for milliners, few weddings and race days cancelled, we decided to keep sewing by designing and creating hand made face masks. Our designs have been very popular as we us high quality cotton fabrics. All of our face masks, face coverings, are totally reversible. On the outer side there is a pattern and inside a complimentary plain colour. Each one has 3 layers, 2 cotton and interfacing as the centre layer. The elastic has a toggle which make all the masks adjustable.  The face mask cotton we use is quilting standard and therefore of a very high quality, a denser weave. We make our face masks in 2 sizes, medium and large however, we make other sizes, such as small and extra large face masks to order. Some of our designs are available to buy on our website . We are constantly making new designs so if there is any particular style or theme you are after please do contact us to see what we have available.

Hat Designs for our new 2020 collection

The 2020 Hat Collection  We have designed and hand made the majority of our 2020 hat collection and now await our images from the photo shoot last week. One of the main colours in the collection is pink. Having been to as wedding in St Paul Cathedral last weekend, it definitely appears that pink and blue seem to be the popular colours of the year although, three of our bespoke hats ordered for weddings this Spring were black. Our new hats will be on our website soon, www.adriennehenrymillinery.co.uk

Vintage Inspired Bespoke Hats

Simply Vintage Darling! Handmade Hats with a Vintage Inspiration Vintage hats have been my passion for years. As milliners we now design and hand make bespoke hats with a vintage twist and inspiration. This black and off-white tilt hat was inspired by an image in a 1939 Vogue pattern book. It is a hat which will compliment an outfit from either the 1940's or 1950's. This is our first completed hat using this design. We are busy creating a couple more designs based on this hat in other colours and colour combinations. Also there are a couple of different crown shape.  Traditionally the bow decoration was widely used during the first half of the 20th century, and it looks as though it will be popular this year at Royal Ascot. This hat is now available to buy in our Etsy shop  here , alternatively you can have similar made to order. 1950's Pillbox Hat

It's a Monday morning and I have decided to add this one-off handmade bespoke pillbox hat made by us using an original 1950's hat block to Etsy. This hat is made from black sinamay and is overlaid with an embroidered black fabric with pink flowers and green leaves. Within the flowers there are several shades of pale pink. We have added a black birdcage veil which goes all the way around the hat and comes to a bow at the back and it is perfect for any special occasion. We have designed this pillbox to sit either to the right or the left of the head at angle towards the front of the head. It is attached using hat elastic and hairgrips can be used for added security. As with all our hats at  Adrienne Henry Millinery we used traditional millinery techniques and all our hats, headpieces and fascinators are fully and lovingly handmade and hand stitched by us in the UK. https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/673943302/1950s-style-pillbox-hat-black-with-pink We ha...

1920's Style Cloche Hat Workshops

1920's Style Cloche Hat Workshops One of our most popular workshops is learning how to make a 1920's style cloche hat.  The lesson takes a complete day, sometimes a little longer, to complete a cloche.  About the workshop Having chosen the colour of the hat and shape the student learns how to block their hat on a wooden cloche block using steam. As the hat dries on the block, the student designs their decoration. Decorations include felt, leather, feathers and a number of other materials depending which of the two workshops we offer. Excitement always occurs when the felt is removed from the block and the hat is revealed. Once off the block the shape of the cloche is decided upon and then the felt is cut accordingly, the most popular being the shape as in the photos, asymmetrical . The cloche then has it's wire and edging attached followed by the band. The band is frequently the same felt as the hat itself. Once all these stages are compl...

Wedding Style Guide: How to wear a hat to a wedding

Whether you are the mother of the bride or groom, the bride herself or just a guest wanting to make a statement, here is our guide to wearing hats to a wedding. The points listed below are just a guide, but ultimately we would always suggest you wear whatever you feel most comfortable in. 1. Hat etiquette/positioning Ladies hats are traditionally worn on the right as dictated by old etiquette where the lady would wear her hat on the right, while her gentleman partner would wear his sword to the left, balancing each other out. Of course nowadays hats can be worn on either side as we no longer follow this etiquette, but you will generally find any purchased hat will be made to be worn on the right or with the decoration on the right. If you would prefer a hat on the left this is perfectly acceptable and a milliner will happily make one for you. 2. Hat proportion The hat size should be in proportion with the wearer. If you are petite, a pillbox hat or smaller brimmed hat will...

An unusual hat to make heads turn! Our new designs for this year includes two flower range. Both types of hats are in our 'Chelsea Flower' collection. We have designed and hand made 4 lily pad hats. Ladies Silk Turbans

We are very excited about launching our Ladies Silk Turban range soon. Having worked on three as a starting point we were extremely happy when the very first one we made was bought this week. It was not even completed, we had a couple of hours to make the lining and sew it securely inside. Originally I wanted to make turbans for every day wear for ladies who have hair loss due to alopecia or ladies who are going through chemo therapy and like wise have lost their hair or their hair has started to regrow. These would not have been as suitable for special occasions but our new designs are perfect to wear both during the day and evenings. The lady who bought the ivory silk turban was very please as it complimented her Edwardian outfit. Whilst we thought there would be an interest in the turbans I did not think there would be a demand with ladies who are followers of Jane Austen. It was a very welcome piece of information. These ladies take dressing up in the correct Edwardian styl...

Pasquale Vaira Photography

Pasquale Vaira photograper & friend As a milliner I have many photographers who shoot my work and they soon become friends. It is probably the case that artists/creatives are naturally attracted to each other. Pasquale sees the world in a very artistic way. Through his photographs his personality shines through as does his passion for those images which shows an interest for vitality of life. I thoroughly enjoy working with him and would recommend him for photo shoots from weddings to fashion, from fly-on-the-wall to fun shoots where a group of creatives have been brought together. I suggest if you are looking for a photographer with a lot of character in his or her photos take a look at Pasquale's websites, www.pazvaira.com  and www.vaira-weddings.co.uk
